When I was trying to extricate myself from the Christianity that never quite felt right and leave the built-in guilt and fear behind, I read The Chalice and the Blade, by Riane Eisler. I love the way you expressed this! It is very true that money and power grease the wheels of most(all?) churches. Many enrich themselves and do no outreach to the less fortunate. They are so un Christ-like as to be laughable. Or pitiful.
